The goal of Speak the Name is to reach out to political candidates of all stripes during the current federal election and encouraging them to make a meaningful commitment to making mass atrocity crime prevention a cornerstone of Canadian foreign policy. Speak the Name is a campaign designed to make tangible the existing critical mass of support among both the Canadian public and among political candidates, members of parliament and Canadian policy-makers.
At its most basic, Speak the Name is based on a the understanding that STAND Canada will use its considerable resources to promote the candidacy of politicians who make a meaningful commitment to mass atrocity crime by subscribing to one of our primary policy recommendations. To this end, Speak the Name is committed to, where possible, promoting candidates by:
• Issuing news releases whenever a candidate provides meaningful support to Speak the Name;
• Mobilizing STAND Canada’s chapters across the country to volunteer for, publish articles about and otherwise promote candidates in their region;
• Posting candidates’ name and credentials, the Speak the Name website;
• Utilizing our national mailing list by sending Speak the Name updates that include the names and credentials of candidates that support Speak the Name;
• Publish candidates’ names and credentials in our STAND Digest publication;
• Featuring them in the articles, opinion pieced and letters to the editor;
• Promoting candidates to the Canadian civil society community by taking advantage of our relationships with other NGOs in Canada and the world over.
