Primers on the Darfur Conflict

1. The BBC provides a series of short articles which provide a quick introduction to the Darfur conflict.

2. The International Crisis Group goes into further depth on their page about the Darfur crisis, and also links to their many in-depth reports on the crisis. Their most recent report, Darfur's New Security Reality, was released on November 26, 2007, and provides a good analysis of recent developments in the conflict.

3. The ENOUGH Project provides an overview of the roots of the conflict, which provides a bit more historical detail than the ICG page, but maintains an accessible and readable style.

4. The Council on Foreign Relations periodically releases primers on various aspects of the Darfur conflict. Recently, the CFR produced a good overview of the challenges facing the peace process.

5. The BBC also provides some primers on the conflict in South Sudan. The Darfur conflict and recent tensions in South Sudan are increasingly closely linked, and it is important for Darfur advocates to have an understanding of the issues at stake in the North-South civil war.
