Our Vision

STAND Canada's mandate is to mobilize a critical mass of Canadian students, citizens, and decision makers to end the crisis in Darfur, and respond to future threats of genocide.

Our History

STAND Canada was founded in February 2005 as a product of six months of Darfur advocacy and activism work at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. Catalyzed by a gathering of students at a Canadian Federation of Jewish Students conference in Montreal, STAND was launched at a number of campuses across the country. Its first campaign, “10,000 Student Voices: A Difference for Darfur” collected over 12,000 student signatures from campuses across Canada and delivered the campaign message to members of all parties, including then-prime minister Paul Martin.

Since then, STAND Canada members have organized hundreds of Darfur-related events in their communities, and on their university and high-school campuses. Nationally, STAND has achieved several notable successes.
