1-800-Genocide Campaign

1-800-GENOCID(E)- 1-800-436-6243
1-800-GENOCIDE was launched in Canada on October 15, 2007 and will be in operation for as long as it takes to change Canadian policy towards Darfur.

A similar opportunity has been made available in the United States by the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net). STAND Canada is extremely grateful to GI-Net for making the toll-free number available for our use in Canada, and for partnering with us in our pursuit to end the crisis in Darfur. Without their support and hard work we would not be able to offer this service for Canadians.

Since STAND was founded we have been sucessful convincing students across the country that they should become advocates for Darfur. What we have struggled with is giving Canadians an avenue to directly influence the policy of the Canadian Government towards the crisis in Darfur.

The goal of 1-800-GENOCIDE is to give Canadians the opportunity to directly influence their government regarding the situation in Darfur, Sudan. Our target is 1000calls/month. We believe if we can get up to or over 1000 people a month calling key MPs then we will be able to significantly influence the policy of the Canadian Government towards the crisis in Darfur. With thousands of people already dead and millions of people displaced and dying the time for action is now. Do not let your government drag its collective heals any longer. Leave a message and demand strong action by the Canadian Government to end the crisis.

The toll-free number will connect Canadians directly to their choice of 5 Members of Parliament. They will have the opportunity to exercise direct democracy and impact the policy choices of the Canadian Government at NO COST.

How the system works:
When callers in Canada dial in to 1-800-436-6243 (GENOCID) they will be connected to our direct advocacy phone system. They will be given the choice of the 5 MPs. Following your selection you will be connected directly to the MP's office. They will leave a message with a staffer or a voicemail expressing their concerns about the crisis in Darfur and what they think the Canadian Government's response should be. After they leave a message they will have the choice to re-enter the system to leave another message for another MP is they choose.

We encourage you to leave any message you like pertaining to Darfur. Others using this system are asking MPs to:

(1) support appointing a Canadian envoy to Sudan
(2) support the Sudan Accountability Act on Divestment
