Since its founding in 2005, STAND has become the leading organization in Canada for youth led anti-genocide advocacy and activism. We are dedicated to making it easy to act against genocide.
In the fall of 2009, STAND Canada was contacted by Uwe Boll and Chris Roland, the writers and producers of the motion picture Darfur (2009). Bol and Roland approached STAND with the unique opportunity to premiere their new film. This project evolved into a ten-city film tour across Canada that will launch STAND’s new campaign, Stand for the Dead.
What is the Stand For The Dead Campaign?
Genocide is often ignored and considered hard to grasp by virtue of its enormity and complexity; it’s easy to stop feeling that sense of human loss when death tolls roll past one thousand, ten thousand or the four hundred thousand recorded deaths in Darfur. STAND has recently developed a campaign to address this problem. Stand For The Dead is a fully integrated campaign that engages and inspires Canadians to Stand for the life of one Darfuri victim of genocide. Students on University Campuses and High Schools across Canada will proudly wear T-shirts with one victim’s name across their chest to Stand up and take a stance against the loss and suffering of one mother, father, son or daughter.
American journalists in Sudan are confronted with the dilemma of whether to return home to report on the atrocities they have seen, or to stay behind and help some of the victims they have encountered.
